Jason Martin #36 Continues Top 5 Streak

For Immediate Release:
Eagle Raceway, Eagle, NE –
Saturday night, May 6, 2017, the team had plans to travel south to the Lucas Oil Speedway in Missouri to compete with the regional ASCS group, but they decided it was financially a better decision to stay home and race their Myers Racing Engines Racesaver 305 at Eagle Raceway. Martin feels the competition is just as tough and it’s hard to do much traveling when they have the luxury of racing so close to home for basically the same start money. “This deal is challenging in the fact that it all costs money to go up and down the road and the 360 engines are so expensive to maintain, so we need to use our heads and not get our bank account, engines, and equipment worn out on races that aren’t higher paying events that can help get us down the road to the next race”, Martin said. Unfortunately, the heat races at Eagle Raceway were all lined up off of point averages and the BM Motorsports team had not competed at the track yet this season to develop any kind of point average. 37 of the Racesaver 305 drivers signed in to compete at Eagle and Martin was assigned the last 10th starting spot of the first heat race and moved forward well, just didn’t quite get to the fourth and final transfer position to get locked in the invert for the feature and finished 5th. “We slid the guy for fourth there on the last lap, but it was really a last ditch effort in hopes to secure the final transfer, but it didn’t work out” Martin said. Since they were in the first heat race and the first car that didn’t transfer out, they lined the #36 car up on the pole of the B-main, which Martin checked out to an early lead until multiple cautions came out for spinning cars. On one of the restarts, there was a few cars that were involved in a tangle just at the flag stand and Martin was penalized 2 positions for starting the race too slow and causing an accident mid pack. Martin said he was quite shocked at this infraction, but didn’t concern himself with the challenge. “Apparently at Eagle Raceway, there is a promotors provision that states you can’t have a good performing engine that takes off well on restarts, but really I think it was just a promotor wanting to put a show on for the fans”, Martin said. This worked out in his favor, as the bottom was the place to be on the race track and Martin had to make the top of the race track work as he slowly gained enough momentum to drive around the first and second place cars and drive away to win the B main. Earning a 17th starting spot in the A-main, the BM motorsports crew went to work and knew what they had to do with the race car to get it maneuverable to race through traffic to come from deep in the field and have a chance to win the race. “Aaron, Kaleb, and DJ really went to work on this Eagle Chassis and gave me a great race car to drive. We knew we weren’t going to be able to be Mr. Nice Guy and just wait for an opening to present itself if we were going to win the race, so I had to force the issue and try and pass through the middle or just flat try and beat them to the bottom. The track crew had reworked both the bottom and the top of the track, so that left a narrow window to try and pass cars that were locked to the bottom and cars that were rippin’ the cushion”, Martin said. Martin made his way to the top 10 early in the race making passes through the middle of the race track and turning down and catching the bottom getting off the corners, that move propelled him to the top 5 late in the race, but while passing for third the fellow competitor slipped up and hit a hole right in the bottom of turns 1 and 2 and bounced in the left rear tire of Martin’s car just as he was making the middle groove pass, causing his shock mount to break. With no left rear shock attached the car, a 5th place finish was all that was salvaged out of a stellar run to the front. Martin feels he had a good chance and winning the race if that hadn’t happened, he says “I was really making progress there as the track started going away and didn’t feel we were getting faster, but the leaders were slowing down and coming back to me. We just got to close to a guy that happened to get out of the gas at the wrong time and clipped the hole wrong. It’s part of racing at Eagle, we all know the modifieds and other narrow tired cars dig those holes out so bad, we just deal with it and go on.”
The team is anxiously preparing for the next event on the schedule, Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS is the place to be on Thursday evening when the American Sprint Car Series National tour stops in for a mid-week event. This is a track that is usually high speed and slick, which makes for good racing. Jason Martin and the BM Motorsports team plan to head down and see how they can stack up against the some of the best 360 racers in the country, as this is an event that comes just before the NASCAR event at Kansas Speedway, which tends to draw a huge crowd of fans who have become educated on the grass roots racing of sprint cars. Friday night looks to be a night off from racing and they’ll plan to hit the track at Eagle Raceway again on Saturday and put it in victory lane for all their loving and supporting Mom’s as Mother’s Day is on Sunday.
